WAEC 2025 Results: Only 38.32% Passed English Language and Mathematics.
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the results of the May / June 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). The information was disclosed by the Head of WAEC Nigeria, Amos Josiah Dangut.
The 2025 West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE), which took place from April 24th to June 20th, saw over 1,973,365 students who registered for the examination across 23,554 recognized schools in Nigeria, including 12,178 candidates with varying special needs. According to the data released by the West African Examination Council.
The data disclosed by the council further reveal that out of the total number (1,969,313) of candidates who sat the Senior School Certificate Examination, only nine hundred and seventy-six thousand, seven hundred and eighty-seven (976,78) were males and nine hundred and ninety-two thousand, five hundred and twenty-six (99,526) were females representing 49.60 and 50.40% respectively.
Further analyzing the data, the council disclosed that out of the total number of candidates who sat for the exams, 77.06% of candidates’ results have been fully processed and released, while 22.94% of candidates have one or more of their subjects still being processed due to some unresolved issues.
Highlighting the development, Mr. Dangut stated that efforts are being made to facilitate the processes and release the results of affected candidates within the next couple of days.
The data also revealed that seven hundred and fifty-four thousand, five hundred and forty-five candidates obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, including Mathematics and English language, which represent only 38.32%, indicating a 33.8% decline in the number of candidates who achieved credit and above in five subjects, including Mathematics and English Language, compare to the 2024 data.

- One Million, nine hundred and sixty-nine thousand, three hundred and thirteen (1,969,313) candidates sat for the examination.
- One million, seven hundred and eighteen thousand and ninety candidates obtained credit and above in five subjects (with or without English Language and Mathematics), representing 87.24%.
- Seven hundred and fifty-four thousand, five hundred and forty-five (754,545) candidates obtained credits and above in five subjects, including Mathematics and English Language. Representing 32.32%.
- Out of the seven hundred and fifty-four thousand, five hundred and forty-five (754,545) candidates, 46.01% were male, while 53.99% were female.
Comparing WASSCE 2024 and 2025
In comparison, the WAEC data reveals that in this year (2025), WASSCE, there is a 33.8% decrease in candidates’ performance, indicating that candidates who obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including Mathematics and English Language, which was 72.12%.

- Visit the WAEC 2025 results checker portal.
- Enter your examination number (this is your seven-digit centre number together with your three-digit seat number).
- In the examination year drop-down menu, select 2025.
- Move to the examination field and select “SCHOOL CANDIDATE RESULTS”.
- Enter your PIN and serial number in their respective fields; these always come with your WAEC ID card. You can purchase one from a WAEC authorized card vendor if you don’t have.
- Confirm your details and click “submit”.
- Enabled pop-up in your browser if required, and print out your result or export to a PDF file.
