The National Examination Council (NECO) is an examination body that regulates, conducts, and organizes examinations for Nigerian students, both in local and international schools. The Council conducts examinations for primary and secondary education levels in Nigeria. Established in 1999, the council has consistently fulfilled its mandate by conducting fair examinations across seven countries, with ongoing expansion.
One of the most recognised examinations by the council is the two-category Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). SSCE Internal and SSCE External are often written by school candidates and private candidates, respectively.
Recently, the council announced a transition from traditional pen-and-paper examination to a computer-based format, an innovation aimed at improving its overall examination standard to align with modern trends. To prepare candidates ahead of this new development, the council has introduced a mock examination designed to get candidates familiar with its CBT environment.
In this article, candidates will learn how to register and participate in the NECO SSCE CBT mock test from the comfort of their home.
NECO 2025 External Examination Format
The 2025 NECO SSCE mock exams (External) will be hybrid, combining computer-based and traditional pen-and-paper formats. The objective will be completely computer-based, while practical papers will be written on examination booklets.
What’s the NECO Mock Examination/Test
The NECO mock examination is a computer-based test designed by the National Examination Council to assess its readiness to conduct its first-ever computer-based examination, while providing candidates with the opportunity to learn and become familiar with the new exam environment.
The NECO computer-based mock examination is fully online and allows candidates to participate from any location at their convenience, requiring only a PC or mobile device with internet access.
Why It’s Important for Candidates
Being the first of its kind in the NECO Senior School Certificate Examination level, strategic planning and proper preparation are important for both the council and prospective candidates. The CBT mock examination introduces candidates to modern test formats, familiarizes them with the CBT interface, sharpens their time management skills, and increases their confidence ahead of the main exam.
How to Register and Participate
Registration for the NECO computer-based mock test is fully online and can be done from anywhere. Here are the steps to register and participate;
- Visit the NECO mock examination enrollment portal.
