JAMB Issues Fresh Instructions to Institutions on Admission Timeline For 2025 / 2026 Session
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a fresh directive to all Nigerian institutions on admission deadlines. The Board directed these instructions to institutions as well as students in the 2025 Policy Meeting, chaired by the Minister of Education.
In the Meeting, the Board resolved that all Public Universities must complete the 2025 admissions by 31st October 2025, while all private universities must also finalize admission by 30th November 2025.
The Board also directs other tertiary institutions, both public and private, to conclude admission processes by 31st December 2025.
Accordingly, all tertiary institutions are to keep within the timelines. Institutions that are not ready to commence the 2025/2026 academic session should comply within the approved timeline issued by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to conclude and archive their admission list pending the delayed matriculation.
Furthermore, the Board urged all public universities to conclude all admissions preliminaries, including Post-UTME screening , and submit their recommended lists via CAPS not later than 30 September 2025 to allow for full scrutiny and timely processing, while private universities are expected to submit theirs by 31st October 2025.
What These Fresh Admission Timelines Mean for Institutions
As directed by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), all institutions are to comply with this new directive. Consequently, universities, colleges, and polytechnics will speed up their pre-admissions processes in order to meet deadlines.
What it means for Prospective Students
These fresh instructions also affect prospective students in many ways:
Positively Impact: One of the positive impacts these instructions will have on prospective students is that institutions will be compelled to resume the academic session on time, hence creating enough time for students to follow up on their academic activities seamlessly.
Negative Impact: Institutions may not have enough time to screen prospective students properly for admission, which may result in ignoring the majority of average-performing students who can be considered for admission.
