The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the admission deadline into Public Federal and State universities to Monday, 17th November 2025.
Recall that earlier in a policy meeting held by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, chaired by the Honourable Minister of Education on 18th June, 2025, had initially fixed Friday, 31st October, 2025 as the admission deadline for all public universities in Nigeria.
This previous deadline was necessary, according to the board, to allow other tiers of tertiary institutions, the private universities, colleges of education, and innovation enterprises institutions to complete their admissions ahead of the closing date of 31st December 2025.
However, the board noted that some compelling circumstances made it necessary to extend the previous deadline for completion of 2025 admissions into public universities. Such as an appeal from the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) to extend the 2025 admission deadline for public universities due to factors, including a court order directing that the status quo should remain on the 2025/2026 admission list, and the release of a list of 229 programmes accredited by the National University Commission for 37 universities on 29th October, 2025.
While the Board noted that this development will ensure fairness and inclusiveness in the 2025 admission process, it also expressed appreciation to all institutions for their tireless efforts in meeting the initial deadline.
What the admissions deadline extension means for students and Institutions
Students who are yet to be offered provisional admission by their institution should seize this golden opportunity by following their institution’s admission requirements, such as uploading of their O’leve results into JAMB CAPS. To do this, candidates should visit any JAMB accredited centre and upload their O’level results.
Candidates should also login to their JAMB efacility portal using their registered email address regularly to see admission updates and accept accordingly.

What It Means for Institutions
The extension of the admissions deadline will provide public universities across the country with the time required to meticulously select and consider intelligent candidates for admission who missed out due to the previous deadline.
What Private Universities and other institutions should do
Although this announcement was specially directed all public universities, it is important for other tiers of tertiary education institutions to take advantage of this new development and work to conclude their admissions processes before the deadline of 31st December 2025 sets by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Boards and the Federal Ministry of Education.
Conclusion
The announcement of the extension of the admissions deadline by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board is a source of relief for public universities, students, and parents alike. It will ensure fairness and inclusiveness in the 2025 admissions exercise, especially for universities and students who were unable to meet the previous deadlines for some reason.
All public universities and students are therefore encouraged to seize this opportunity and take advantage before the final deadline of 17 November 2025.
