The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reaffirmed its decision on the 2025 admissions deadline and commencement of the 2025/2026 academic session.
Following the directives issued at the 2025 Policy Meeting, chaired by the Honourable Minister of Education, all tertiary institutions have been instructed to conclude their admission processes by the end of 2025, according to the schedule. The Board stated in its bulletin.
The Schedule for Admission Deadline is as Follows
- Public Universities: All public universities to complete the admissions exercise by 31st October, 2025.
- Private Universities: To complete admissions by 30th November, 2025.
- All Other Institutions (Public and Private): To complete admissions by 31st December 2025.

The Board encouraged all institutions to finalise admissions well in advance of these deadlines.
Furthermore, the Board added that where an institution is not yet ready to commence the new academic session, such an institution should conduct its admission process and archive the results.
Stakeholders at the policy meeting reached this decision to stabilise the academic calendar and ensure equitable access to admission slots across tiers of tertiary education.
Institutions conducting Post-UTME screenings were encouraged to complete these exercises promptly to comply with the 2025 admission schedule.
Rationale Behind the Policy Decision
Stakeholders at the policy meeting reached a consensus in an effort to ensure equitable access to admissions slots across tiers of tertiary education and stabilize the academic calendar. This decision was necessary after years of irregular admission schedules that have created uncertainty for students, parents, and educational planners.
This policy aims to address critical issues that have plagued Nigeria’s higher education system, which includes overlapping admission processes, delayed academic sessions, and the inability of students to make informed decisions about their education.
Impact on Students and Parents
The standardized admission timeline across institutions is expected to provide significant relief to students, parents, and institutional stakeholders. With clear deadlines, students and parents can better plan their academic transitions and make alternative arrangements where necessary.
