UTME 2026: JAMB Issues Registration Instructions to Prospective Candidates.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued registration instructions and procedures to prospective candidates of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The fresh instruction was published on the Board’s official X (Twitter) handle on Sunday, December 7, 2026, to prepare prospective candidates for the upcoming Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The statement outlines the steps all candidates must follow for successful registration, as well as common challenges faced during profile code generation and their solutions.
Procedure for registration
The Board advised prospective candidates to follow the outline procedures thoroughly.
Profile Code Generation: Prospective candidates were urged to ensure their details on NIMC and other relevant documents, such as O’level or A’level are the same. To generate their profile code, candidates should text their 11-digit NIN number, leave a space and send it to 55019 or 66019.
The Board added that once a profile code is generated, it cannot be changed, and the candidate’s biodata is automatically retrieved from their NINC and linked to their JAMB profile. Candidates who successfully generate their profile code and purchase the JAMB e-PIN via approved channels, such as banks, should obtain a correct registration template, fill it out and proceed to any approved centre for their registration.

Registration:
Candidates were further encouraged to ensure that all details are entered accurately before final submission by the registrant at the registration centre. Furthermore, the Board outlined important tips prospective candidates must take note of before proceeding with their registration.
- Candidates who wish to make corrections in their biodata should make all necessary corrections (Name, Date of Birth, Gender, State of Origin) with NINC early and confirm that the changes have been effected in their portal before registration.
- Candidates must note that their GSM number and email are their unique identifiers and cannot be changed after registration.
- Candidates who encounter biometric issues should visit the nearest JAMB office and must avoid forceful registration by the CBT centre.
- Additionally, candidates were also advised to ensure that dual screens are used at the registration centre and also confirm that their passports and biometrics are captured accurately before submission.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board also identified some common issues usually encountered by candidates during registration and profile code generation and provided simple solutions for candidates to manage these challenges when they encounter them. Some of the most common registration issues identified by JAMB were:
- RECORD NOT FOUND:
Solution: The Candidate should visit the nearest NIMC office for validation. - WRONG PARAMETER: This error indicates that the request was sent in the wrong format
Solution: Resend the request in a correct format. e.g, NIN 00000011111 to 55019 or 66019 - YOUR NIN HAS ALREADY BEEN USED BY GSM NUMBER (070……….): This error indicates that a candidate has already generated a profile code with the quoted phone number.
Solution: Retrieve the SIM card and resend the request using the phone number. - UNABLE TO VERIFY YOUR NIN AT THE MOMENT (NIMC: UNKNOWN)
Solution: Wait and try again later.
