As the uproar continues since the release of the 2025 UTME result, there has been a lot of controversy about the unprecedented failure record in this year UTME examination.
Recall that candidates, parents and educators were all concern about what could be the cause, many linking poor performance of student to excessive use of social media, while some cited that poor educational structure in Nigeria was the primary cause of this year mass UTME failure.
While the Minister or Education on the other hand applauded JAMB stating that mass failure entails the Board’s effort to tackle examination malpractice was ripping positive outcome.
The pressure continues, many individuals and institutions threaten to sue JAMB accusing the Board of alterations of computer systems and demanding for complete questions, answers, marking and recording of results.
In response to this, JAMB in a statement by the Board’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin assured then general of proper scrutiny of these complains. He wrote
We are particularly concerned about the unusual complaints originating from a few states within the Federation. We are currently scrutinizing these complaints in detail to identify and rectify any potential technical issues. To assist in this process, we have engaged a number of experts, including members from the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, Chief External Examiners, who are heads of tertiary institutions, the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa, measurement experts, and Vice Chancellors from various institutions. If it is determined that there were indeed glitches, we will implement appropriate remedial measures promptly, as we do in the case of the examinations themselves.”
On the 14th of May 2025, JAMB shared another statement confirming that “Technical Glitch” affected over 150 centers resulting to the general low score. The board added that candidates who were affected by this errors will be contacts to reprint their examination slip and retake the Exams starting May 16 2025.
In response majority of candidates has express their dissatisfaction on JAMB decision to allow only selected candidates to retake the Exams, calling for total cancellation of the previous exams.
