Jubilation across the country as the Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the payment of unpaid dues to members of the National Youth Service Corps.
This comes months after Corps members began to receive a monthly allowance of 77,000 naira, reflecting the increase in the national minimum wage from 33,000 to 77,000 naira. This significant change has been welcomed by many, as it marks a positive step toward addressing the financial needs of Corps members across the nation.
However, many Corp members were still receiving 33,000 naira due to the delay in implementing this increment, until late March, before the official commencement of the new minimum wage.
On the 2nd of June 2025, the Federal Government began crediting NYSC members who did not receive the new salary arrears to balance their salaries.

Why is the Payment of arrears important?
In light of the serious economic challenges currently facing the country, the recent financial assistance provided to members of the National Youth Service Corps will serve as a vital support system. This payment is expected to play a crucial role in helping these young individuals cover their daily living expenses, such as transportation, food, and housing costs. By alleviating some of their financial burdens, this initiative aims to foster a greater sense of trust in the government among the youth, demonstrating a commitment to their well-being and future.
